Mystery: What happened to the Colony of Roanoke?

Hi 5th Grade,

 Wasn't that a creepy story we learned today during History?  Below is the video we watched in class.  What do you think happened?  Write a comment below and state you opinion regarding which theory makes the most sense?  Or, if you have your own original theory, share it with the class.

    I think that the Spanish attacked the people and took away their people and took their belongings and made them go live somewhere else.The message on the tree was meant to confuse everybody. Ethan Davis

    I personally think that he people of Roanoke ran out of food and went to a place called Croatoan. It's possible that they ran out of food because there were a lot of people. When the people left the island on a ship to a place that had food, there may have been a storm or they died of starvation.

    Some good responses Ethan and Rachel. The early colonists of this time risked everything for a new start in America. The story of Roanoke terrifies me. I'm so thankful I live in 2015 vs in the late 1500s. If I were one of the colonists, I would have done whatever it took to keep me and my family alive...even if it meant joining a tribe of natives. I think that's what happened.

    I think that today was a very spooky lesson. I also think that the settlers got "flushed away" from the Spanish and at least they found 1 body of the person that died (that's good proof.

    I think that the people of the lost colony took everything with them, besides the walls made a boat then went to find somewhere else to live.

    I think they made rafts out of there homes and left the walls and found a new place to live.

    I think the Colonists got into war with the Indians and the Indians killed all of them and burned all of their things then hid the bodies. The mark on the fence post was supposed to tell the English that they were the tribe that tood everything.

    i think a plague came through and wiped them out and the indians took the resources but not the wall
